Moez HAJJI, Tunisia (Promotion 6)

Susfoods student from Tunisia

I’m Moez Hajji, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Tunisia. In 2019, I graduated as a food processing engineer and launched a small project specializing in black garlic manufacturing.

I chose to pursue this master’s degree in “food sustainability systems” at ISARA because I believe that sustainability is lacking in Tunisian companies. The integration of sustainability inside businesses is becoming increasingly crucial, and it will undoubtedly be the problem of future.

What I enjoy about this master’s degree is the nice mix of theory and practice; I had good theoretical sessions at the Università Cattolica, as well as several seminars with well-known firms like Ferrero and Barilla. While at ISARA, the majority of our lessons were centered on practical projects that prepared us for the real world and allowed us to build our interpersonal and soft skills.

I used to believe that sustainability was a term used by large corporations to greenwash their products, but owing to my several lectures at ISARA, I learned a lot about different aspects of sustainability and also learned that sustainability could be assessed. I felt delighted to debate about several companies’ controversies surrounding their approach to sustainability, whether it was social, environmental, or economic sustainability.

After graduation, I intend to continue building my project in a sustainable manner. I believe that with work experience and all of the information I gained from this master’s program, I would be able to serve as a consultant and assist many Tunisian enterprises in becoming sustainable.

Knowing how to quantify my environmental impact, labor rights, and Techno-economic evaluation, I feel I can create a project that will be environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. In addition, I will commit to the SDGs by engaging in or sponsoring non-governmental organizations that combat food waste, human/animal cruelty, pollution, and so on.

If you are looking for an international experience in a challenging environment, I highly recommend this program. You will meet many people from various countries and backgrounds. In addition, you will develop a deeper grasp of sustainability.

Currently, I’m doing an internship in a French company, where my role is to improve the present situation and make considerable progress toward zero waste within the scope of the development of corporate social responsibility/ sustainable development initiatives.
